Lakshmi Shankar moved from India to Michigan after completing her Masters in Physical Therapy. While working at St. John & Providence Health System, she was motivated by her mentor to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Orthopedic Manual Therapy from Oakland University in Rochester, MI, where she trained under manual therapy stalwarts like Freddy Kalternborn and Olaf Evenjth. She then went on to obtain her Doctorate of Science in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy from Oakland University. Lakshmi became interested in the field of pelvic health through her work with her patients and went on to take numerous pelvic health courses. After training with Tracy Sher, a pelvic specialist, Lakshmi completed her CAPP –Pelvic in 2015 and is working towards her WCS. She has been a site facilitator and lab instructor for various SOWH Pelvic and OB courses. Lakshmi has taught a full day course in Colombia, South America, and has presented at the International Pelvic Pain Conference in South America on various topics. Lakshmi has also presented with both local and international physicians on various topics including urinary incontinence, pelvic pain and PT treatment of Pelvic disorders.
