I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and a Certified CranioSacral Therapist. I have been in practice since January 2013. I also am a mother of two girls, Bridget and Eleanor. I breastfed Bridget exclusively until 6 months, and she weaned at 29 months. Eleanor was exclusively breastfed for 6 months, and weaned at 3 years old. My journey into lactation consulting began after my first daughter was born and I discovered just how much misinformation there is about breastfeeding. There are so many things working against mothers, from birthing practices to formula advertisements, that it is hard to find good information among all the nonsense. It struck me as amazingly unfair that women who wanted to breastfeed weren't able to because they couldn't find good information and support. I decided that I wanted to help make a change and empower women. That decision led me on a path that I would never have imagined. Once I began my internship, I quickly came to realize that the standard ideas about how to help babies with breastfeeding issues were not enough, and that breastfeeding issues are almost always symptoms of something else. That realization led me to get training in craniosacral therapy (CST) and rhythmic movement training (RMT). I also came to learn that mothers and babies are connected more thoroughly than we generally treat them, and so sometimes mom's need help just as much as the babies do. And so I opened my practice to adults as well. A large part of why I became a lactation consultant, and a large part of my continued vision is getting services and quality information to women regardless of their income, race, sexual orientation, etc. Everyone with a new baby deserves to have up-to-date, evidence-based information and support. To that end, I keep my fees lower so that more women can have access to my services. And the future holds even more for getting good access to good services to all women!
