Ashley obtained her Master's degree in nursing at the University of Virginia. After graduating she began her nursing career at The Women's Place, caring for mothers and babies at The University of Virginia medical center. She has had a variety of experiences spanning many aspects of women's health, including working as a nurse at Winnie Palmer Hospital in Orlando, Florida (This busy high-risk facility delivers about 60 babies a day.), and as a travel nurse in Labor & Delivery at multiple hospitals in the Washington, DC area.
Ashley's interest in lactation consulting grew when was a representative with Ameda breast pumps, which put her in touch with many hospitals and lactation consultants in DC, Maryland, Virginia, and the Carolinas. This role enabled her to share best practices within the breastfeeding support community, and better understand the many challenges that new mothers face when learning to feed their babies and use a breast pump. In 2014 Ashley became an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). She moved back to Charlottesville in 2015 and worked as a fertility clinic nurse at Reproductive Medicine and Surgery Center of Virginia.
Prior to joining Breastfeeding Blues & Bliss, Ashley worked as a lactation consultant for Momseze, a telemedicine breastfeeding support company. She is excited to work with Lou, helping Charlottesville-area moms reach their breastfeeding goals through the use of evidence-based practices.
Her interests include management of oversupply, healing cracked/sore nipples, pump flange fitting and troubleshooting, preparing to go back to work, and prenatal consults for breastfeeding and newborn care.
Ashley lives in Crozet with her husband, son, and cat. In her free time, she enjoys volunteering with the Junior League of Charlottesville, baking, and running.
