Uqora: A review

Urinary incontinence and urinary tract infections often go hand in hand. Uqora promises to improve bladder health and improve UTIs naturally.

I’ve lived with bladder inconsistencies on and off for a year now. That means I have to be more self-aware about the things I’m putting into my body and how I’m treating it. I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis (IC), a chronic bladder condition caused by acidic foods, stress, or sitting for extended periods of time. I also get frequent UTIs, although I didn’t get my first one until I was in college. I always felt awful for my friends who complained about them almost constantly; I felt as though I had dodged a major bullet. When the first one finally hit me, I honestly didn’t know what it was because it wasn’t painful. But as a result, they would go on for a couple weeks at a time and I always needed antibiotics to get rid of them. When I have one, I really have to be near a restroom at all times. I can never hold it in and sometimes that impedes my life, because I don’t want to go out with friends in that situation. No one wants to be the friend running to the bathroom every five minutes!

So I jumped at the chance to try a brand-new product that promised to improve my bladder health: Uqora.

I received a packet of the Uqora powder in the mail and followed the directions: to mix the packet with one cup of water and stir together for a refreshing lemonade taste. Indeed, the drink tastes very similar to light lemonade. The stigma with powdered drinks that you mix together is that they taste bland and you have to power through the drink. I didn’t feel that way with Uqora. The smell alone was already inviting—just like pink lemonade. It is advised to drink before exercise, sexual activity, camping, and other regular everyday activities to prevent a UTI from coming on. I followed the directions to a T, drinking the mix right before intimacy with my partner for two nights straight and finding that I was home-free from UTIs.

Normally, I always pee afterward and then go to sleep, hoping that my bladder won’t wake me in the middle of the night with an urge to go. After trying Uqora, I had a sense of relief knowing it was fighting off the bacteria for me while I was sleeping so there wouldn’t be any surprises in the morning.  The combination of electrolytes, antioxidants, mild diuretics, and carbohydrates helps keep bacteria from sticking to the bladder wall and helps keep the urinary tract clean and healthy.

I would say that based on this sample, if nothing else is working for a UTI, then this product is definitely worth a shot! The company did a clinical trial in which 308 men and women (yes, it’s safe for both) took the powdered drink and the results showed they were four times less likely to get a UTI. However, I did find that even while using Uqora I still had a constant need to use the restroom, a symptom of my IC, but I hope those symptoms would go away as well. You can’t blame me for trying!

Before I was diagnosed with IC, the doctor kept telling me I had a UTI, so I was constantly on a bladder medication to help keep it healthy. I would rank Uqora among my favorite products for bladder health, right under AZO cranberry tablets. AZO was my holy grail all throughout college for urinary tract health, and I find it easier to take my vitamins all together rather than mixing a drink. But I feel as though many people might like Uqora because of the taste, quality of the product, and the fact that you feel pretty healthy drinking a cup of water that is supposed to enrich your body with vitamins to help your urinary tract. You just can’t say no to that!

Uqora can be purchased in 3-, 12-, or 30-packs, ranging from $12 to $80. With a subscription you can also snag a bit of a discount and have it delivered to your door every month to treat those infections right on time. I find the product to be tasty and effective; however, I do love the simplicity of sticking to a vitamin that I can pop in my mouth and walk out the door—I guess I’m loyal to AZO there. I love Uqora’s approach and the cute packaging, but for my IC, a pill is still better for me.
