Overview

Founded in 2005 as the Indiana Mothers’ Milk Bank, The Milk Bank was established to improve health outcomes for premature and ill infants, foster better health for children and decrease health care expenditures. The Milk Bank receives human milk from carefully screened donors, pasteurizes, freezes and distributes it throughout the United States. As a non-profit, community-supported entity, The Milk Bank is the first and only donor human milk bank in Indiana. The Milk Bank is a proud member of the Human Milk Banking Association of North America.

Information for milk recipients

Hospital

Complete brief outpatient forms and obtain a prescription from your baby’s health care provider with the following information: Pasteurized donor human milk Detailing the amount of PDHM prescribed in ounces per day How long the prescription is valid (1 week, 1 month, etc) with a max of 3 months -- The Milk Bank’s Donor Milk Express program has the unique ability to provide families in our communities with a readily available source of pasteurized donor human milk (PDHM). Quick access to PDHM allows parents of healthy newborns to supplement with human milk instead of formula, providing babies with a healthy start and parents with peace of mind. Donor Milk Express is available to help bridge the gap between leaving the hospital and a successful breastfeeding routine. At this time you may purchase up to 40 ounces of PDHM without a prescription. If additional PDHM is desired please contact The Milk Bank at 317-536-1670 to become an outpatient
