What is Vitamin A used for?
produce less skin water loss, skin itching, irritation and scaling than retinoic acid1 inhibit UV induction in the skin to prevent skin photoaging8 stimulate collagen synthesis and fibroblast growth in photoaged skin9 reduce the appearance of fine wrinkles in aged and photoaged skin10 when used topically in conjunction with vitamin C partially reverse the skin changes induced by both chronological and photoaging11 reduce the incidence of acne by helping unclog skin pores that lead to acne formation12 and can have anti-inflammatory benefits for acne treatment12 Retinol cream at 1% concentration of vitamin A used over a 12 week period showed fibroblast growth, collagen synthesis and significant improvement in fine wrinkles9. Retinol cream at 0.25% does not irritate the skin but can induce similar antiaging changes as that of retinoic acid at 0.025%7.
