Sodium Silicate, Sodium Metasilicate and Potassium Silicate are an inorganic salts. In cosmetics and personal care products, these ingredients are used in skin care, hair coloring, shaving, bath, eyemakeup and oral hygiene products. Sodium Silicate is used to control the pH of the finished product.

Such ingredients are synthetic amorphous silicas and silicates; crystalline silica is not a cosmetic ingredient and is not used in cosmetics. These ingredients are used as bulking agents and for various other functions. The human and animal safety data relevant to the cosmetic use of these ingredients were assessed by the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel. The Panel concluded that these ingredients are safe as cosmetic ingredients in the practices of use and concentrations as described in this safety assessment when formulated to be non-respirable
