What is Rose Hip used for?
Rosa Canina (Rose Hip) oil, otherwise known as Rosehip oil, has been subject to many studies for its beneficial effects on our skin. It has been reported that rose hip oil has advanced properties for damaged skin restorative1 and regenerative2 capabilities. Specifically, rosehip oil has been shown to contain the following classes of compounds which contribute to these skin antiaging qualities: An abundance of unsaturated fatty acids3 High concentrations of skin antioxidants such as tocopherols (vitamin E) and carotenoids1 High levels of phenolic acids especially p-coumaric acid methyl ester, vanillin, and vanillic acid4 Rose Hip oil is, therefore, an effective source of: unsaturated fatty acids which provide skin moisturizing and emollient properties skin antioxidants to protect the skin against sun and pollution-induced oxidative stress anti-inflammatory compounds to assist with treatment of eczema, neurodermatitis, and cheilitis and other inflammatory dermatoses5

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel reviewed the safety of 12 Rosa canina-derived ingredients, which function as skin conditioning agents, fragrance ingredients, cosmetic astringents, anti-acne agents, abrasives, humectants, and exfoliants in cosmetic products. The Panel reviewed relevant data relating to the safety of these ingredients and concluded that these ingredients are safe in the present practices of use and concentration described in this safety assessment when formulated to be non-irritating and non-sensitizing.
