Pitch us!

Everyone’s experience with the journey to motherhood is different. We want to hear your story! Motherfigure is currently seeking 500-800-word personal essays related to women’s experiences with pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood on a variety of themes.

We welcome unconventional stories that show how real women experience the transition from pregnancy to motherhood.

If you have a compelling story to tell, please send a brief pitch (3-5 sentences) to chelsea@motherfigure.com and iza@motherfigure.com. In your pitch, please note what story your essay will tell. Please do not send complete essays. Motherfigure will pay $100 for each piece accepted.

What we're looking for

Creative, well-written, and specific stories about your journey to motherhood. We want stories that inspire confidence, give insight into life with UI, and let others know that they’re not alone. Check out our first-person section for some good examples, and try not to pitch something we’ve already published. In addition to first-person narratives, we’re also looking for well-written and thoughtful reviews of specific products that make mom’s lives easier (think pads, pumps, etc.). We want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly: What brands or private labels worked for you and what didn’t, and why?

Stories about family

Motherhood brings an identity revolution, and it affects your entire family unit. From intimacy with your partner, to how you play with your kids, to how pregnancy and postpartum affects your mood, we’re looking for unique perspectives on how your pregnancy, childbirth, and early motherhood experience shaped or reshaped your family.

Essays on pregnancy

We’re looking for thoughtful essays on your experiences during pregnancy.

Tales of change

It’s no secret that motherhood brings with it a lot of transformation: your body changes in ways you might not have expected, and you might also experience life changes as a result.  We’re seeking essays with new perspectives on the transformations—good, bad, or surprising—that come with pregnancy, birth, and early motherhood.

Pieces on intimacy

Pregnancy, birth, and motherhood can also affect sex and intimacy with a partner. We’re seeking thoughtful essays about any aspect of intimacy related to the experience.

How you got support

Looking for—and finding—the support, lifehacks, or even products can be a gamechanger. We’re looking for essays about the moments when you’ve owned needing help and got it.
