I became interested in birth work after training in massage therapy, where I hoped to specialize in prenatal massage. In turn, I discovered the road to becoming a birth doula. During this time I became inspired by the women working around me to create a better birth environment in a state where home birth and birth centers are not yet the norm. Families had to strive for choice in their childbearing years and were barred from options such as out-of-hospital birth. The passion of these women inspired me to become more involved and to provide every family with an experience that allows them to determine their care. I have had the honor of attending over 400 births in hospitals, birth centers, and homes. As a midwife, I strive to nurture thoughtful and respectful relationships with the families I serve. Outside of the birth world I like to pretend that I am a textile artist by making messy, knitted, woven, and stitched pieces to hang around my house. I have two dogs, named Bert and Ramona, who I enjoy smothering with love and taking on hikes. My husband and I spend our free time watching reruns of Seinfeld and whipping up a storm in our kitchen.
