Not VBAC friendly 1 Star

THIS IS NOT A VBAC FRIENDLY HOSPITAL.

I was told I could “try” for a vbac, but that they preferred me to have an epidural for surgery.

My first was a planned c-sections because the ultrasound estimated him at 10 pounds 6 ounces. He came out at 9 pounds 2 ounces. I had an RN with me, and she said the nurses missed several steps that are standard of care post-surgery.

They tried to force another c-section because ultrasound estimated my second at 10 pounds. He was 8 pounds, 9 ounces. BOTH OF THESE MARGIN OF ERRORS ARE OVER A POUND.

I was forced to schedule a c-section with my 2nd, with the understanding that if I went into labor, I’d try to vbac. I went into labor 2 days before surgery. After 24 hours, I was seen at the clinic- a doctor I hadn’t seen this pregnancy was ready to send me to surgery. When I told her I had been eating, she stopped insisting, but instead scolded me for eating, telling me I’d die once I have surgery because I’ll aspirate. When I reminded her I wanted a vbac, she told me my baby was too big. The day of the surgery, I had been in labor for so long, I wanted an epidural. The nurse told me not to bother to come in because I was scheduled for surgery, so that’s what they were going to do. When I got there hours later, I was so mad that they summoned the doctor, who told me I could continue with labor but I would have no choice, I HAD to have a male doctor. (She KNEW I had been raped and that this was terrifying for me.) When the anesthesiologist found out surgery was canceled, she came in several times during the day to scream at me and blow me off when I requested the epidural. As a result, I didn’t get it until 4:30 pm after a new nurse found I had asked for hours. I got the doctor to order clear liquids, and the staff screamed at me about that too.

When I finally consented to surgery, the anesthesiologist failed to flood the epidural site- so I felt EVERYTHING. Everyone denied it, and said it was just pressure. This was my 2nd c-section, I know it wasn’t pressure. I eventually passed out, believing I was going to die. When I regained consciousness, I found my baby latched to my chest- the nurse claimed she asked for my consent, but NOBODY heard this- not me, nit my husband, not my doula. Afterwards, the doctor who performed the surgery tried to send me home 24 hours after surgery- I still had the anti-clotting boots on!

There were 4 doctors at this place when I was pregnant. The one I mainly saw (Dr. G)kept telling me I could try, but to prepare for a c-section. Dr. J is so afraid of unplanned c-sections I question her ability to handle ANY emergency- she pushed so hard I decided never to see her again. Dr. V. only saw me once, in labor, and that encounter is described above. Dr. W was the one who denied my experience, leaving me hideously traumatized with postpartum psychosis. My doula also witnessed him lose the baby and struggle to catch him after pulling my baby out.

Don’t give birth here. Seriously.
