I was induced for both pregnancies because I had gestational diabetes for both and severe preeclampsia with the first. My OB was incredible. She delivered both of my babies. Kent was great. The labor nurses were very attentive and accommodating. I would have given 5 stars but my first delivery had a few moments that I wasn’t entirely satisfied with. The first one being, one of the on-call OBs had to check to see how my pushing was progressing( first baby so I was pushing for quite a while) and he was a little aggressive in the way he had checked me and then told me I wasn’t doing a good enough job pushing. Since I was exhausted and in pain, that was not welcome criticism. The next moment I remember was an overnight nurse who sped up one of the IVs for an antibiotic I needed. I told her my arm was severely hurting and she told me it was because she sped up the drip. I asked her to turn it down and she was very clearly annoyed. She also told me if I wanted to use the bathroom, I could undo all the wires for the monitor I was hooked up to myself ( they’re supposed to do it ). Just felt like I wasn’t a priority to her. The third moment from my first labor experience, was after I had my baby. I asked for a lactation consultant. So they sent me a nurse because a consultant wasn’t available. The nurse was pretty abrasive. She asked why I hadn’t taken a lactation class, and she wasn’t very helpful. She also yelled at me because our baby had been sleeping for several hours and we didn’t wake him to feed him ( my labor nurse told me to let the baby cue us, so that’s what we were doing-his blood sugar was fine and his weight was not super low). Obviously I felt so defeated. I was a first time mom and already failing because I didn’t know how to nurse and was not feeding my baby enough. My second birth experience was much better, also I was much more prepared and much more vocal about what I wanted for delivery and postpartum recovery ( stirrups please! And a breast pump and bottles!) I think that probably helped. My nurses were great and I love love love my OB ( shout out to Dr. Kreczko!). My one suggestion would be that nurses should be more sensitive to first time parents. We are tired and we are learning. And breast feeding is hard. Also the medical staff should really make it known that you can exclusively pump and bottle feed (that’s what I do, I didn’t know it was an option before I had my baby always associated breastfeeding with nursing) so it’s ok if nursing doesn’t pan out. You don’t have to settle for a stressed out, painful experience just so you can “bond” with your baby. There are other ways to bond with your baby and you just need to do what’s best for you and your baby.

I was scheduled for an induction at 37 weeks due to preeclampsia. We ended up staying at Kent for four days because of my daughter’s low blood sugar levels and jaundice. Every one of our attending nurses were wonderful before and after birth with the exception of one who actually caused us to have to stay an additional night as she wouldn’t allow us to wake our baby for a feeding and her blood sugar dropped again. Apart from that, everyone was helpful, our room was clean and our needs were met. The special new mommy and daddy dinner was also a very much appreciated gesture.

Both my husband and I love Kent. We had a great experience with delivering both my son and my daughter. I can’t speak highly enough about the kindness of the nursing staff as well as the on-call doctors. Everyone is encouraging and sweet. My OB is Dr. Nisbet. I just love him as well. So kind and reassuring through the process. If I was to have another baby, I would definitely have it at Kent!
