I have been a Lactation Consultant since 2014 and have worked as a Registered Nurse with moms and babies for 13 years. My work experience includes being a nurse in the NICU, Postpartum, and the last 6 years as a hospital Lactation Specialist.
In March 2020, I was furloughed from Erlanger East hospital due to pandemic cuts. Few weeks before I was furloughed, I officially became the owner of Chattanooga Lactation, LLC. God new the desires of my heart and so thankful my husband 100% supported me in this transition.
My passion for lactation started before my kids where born. I would have patients tell me frequently in the hospital that I had a skill with helping babies latch and was so patient. They would joke with me saying, “ Can we take you home with us?” That is when the idea of starting a in-home lactation practice started.
I have two kids that where born in 2011 and 2014 and my dream of becoming a Certified Lactation Consultant finally become true in 2014, But it took a journey to make me the International Board Certified Lactation consultant (IBCLC) I am today.
I was able to breastfeed/combo feed with my first for 16 months and 2.5 years with my second child. I did not find lactation support and had to research on my own. I experienced postpartum depression, cracked and bleeding nipples, low milk supply, failure to thrive with both my babies, slow weight gains, clogged ducts, thrush for 3 months, tongue and lip ties, both kids had MSPI (milk, soy, protein intolerance), elimination diets, reflux, colic, my daughter was born with facial paralysis and latching issues, and nursing strikes.
I can truly say that I understand what my clients are going through. I am patient, compassionate, good at listening to your concerns and needs. I meet you where you are at on your feeding journey with no judgments. We work together to create a plan and I stay by your side until we meet your goals.
I provide you with expert evidence-based information as a healthcare professional specializing in clinical management of breastfeeding. I specialize in tongue and lip ties (TOTs), oral habilitation, breast and nipple pain, low supply and much more. I have created a collaborative team of specialist for resources for my families to get you the best care outside of my scope of practice. The saying, “It takes a village” is sometimes needed with complex feeding cases.
I would love to be a part of your breastfeeding journey and look forward to getting to know you more. I know it’s hard to reach out for help but I am here for you. It’s the best investment you will make for you and your baby’s health. I am currently providing in-home, office by appointment only, and Telehealth.
