Jamie Owens is a Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) since 2012 and a Registered Nurse specializing in Women's Health since 2008. Jamie went to Syracuse University where she majored in Women's Studies and Studio Art. She then went on to an accelerated (BSN) Nursing Program at Quinnipiac University. Jamie has extensive experience working with breastfeeding mothers/families. She worked at New York Presbyterian Hospital Weill Cornell as an RN on the Postpartum Unit for five and a half years and then on the Labor and Delivery Unit for a year and a half. She has been seeing patients privately at their homes for lactation consulting since she received her certificate in 2012. She left the hospital work-life in December of 2015 once she gave birth to her baby girl. After taking 11 months off to be with her daughter, she began her private practice where she lived in Jersey City and surrounding areas. Jamie saw clients in their home and taught breastfeeding workshops. Jamie and her family moved to Denville NJ in April of 2017 where she has continued her lactation consulting practice and breastfeeding workshops. Jamie contributed as a ""breastfeeding expert"" and freelance writer for the website www.mother.ly. Jamie is a lactation practitioner for the website/app Maven. Jamie has always had a passion for women's health and advocacy. After having her own children and breastfeeding them both for over 2 years each, her love and dedication to breastfeeding has only gotten stronger. She is filled with energy and passion and will do whatever it takes to make her patients feel comfortable, confident, and cared for.
Jamie had over-supply with both of her breastfed children. Her first child had a posterior tongue tie and lip tie that were both released at 6 weeks. She went through extreme pain, vasospasms, and major nipple damage. After the release of the tethered oral tissues, Jamie continued on to breastfeed for over two years, pain free. She then breastfeed her second child for 3.5 years. She successfully and easily and lovingly weaned both children when they were ready.
