Bio

Before specializing in lactation, my background was in Early Intervention, as a Speech-Language Pathologist. I have a specialization in feeding disorders, and overall normal infant development across language, gross motor, fine motor, social emotional development, and feeding. I have been a licensed and (ASHA certified) CCC-SLP since 1992. Along with working for Fairfax County Infants and Toddler program from 1992 through 2002, I have experience in home health services for INOVA, as an SLP in 1996-1998. I worked there back when it was called the VNA (Visiting Nurses Association), in that position, I saw infants exclusively for oral -motor and feeding disorders. I have also had experience with newborn care with The Barker Adoption Foundation as a cradle care parent. My husband and I have brought home around 30 newborns from the hospital since 2009. Additionally, I have provided overnight care and baby ‘coaching’ for a small company called LMS (Let Mommy Sleep, LLC), where I was employed since 2010 until very recently. In that capacity, I have worked with new parents to answer their questions and help with breastfeeding, newborn care and general, normal infant development questions. From January 2016 through December 2016, I volunteered at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in the family centered care nursery. I provided direct services to babies and their mothers as patients. My role was divided between nursery room assistance, feeding bottles of expressed human breast milk to babies with jaundice, providing first baths to helping with the supplies in the nursery, including breast pumps and equipment. I really enjoyed the hospital environment, and it was particularly useful to speak in Spanish to many of the families there. Most recently, I have joined the staff of Washington Adventist Hospital, working in the postpartum department as an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant). Lastly, I am a proud mother of 4 breast-fed children, who are all healthy and happy.
