Bio

I am an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and Registered Lactation Consultant (RLC). I have been studying the art of breastfeeding for 30 years and have always had a strong talent in sharing my knowledge and understanding of biological mothering with others. My particular areas of expertise are identifying and helping moms resolve latch issues/painful nursing, supply issues, working and nursing, supporting exclusive breast/breastmilk feeding, expressing breast milk, induced and relactation support, breastfeeding after breast augmentation, insufficient glandular tissue, and child led weaning. My skills cover a wide range of breastfeeding techniques. I live in the beautiful Northeast Georgia mountains but am strongly connected to my hometown in Southwest Georgia, Thomasville and have clients in both areas. I come from an unbroken line of breastfeeding women on both sides of my family. I have two daughters, ages 33 and 27. I am married and live in Cleveland, Ga. Liane with Doctors Hale and Hartmann Liane Varnes, Dr. Thomas Hale, and Dr. Peter Hartmann at the 2010 Hale-Hartmann Annual Conference in Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Varnes was the 2010 Clay-Hoover Scholarship winner. I was strongly influenced by La Leche League when my first daughter was born. I volunteered as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with WIC for many years before becoming the first person hired as a full-time employee in this position in the state. I then became an Certified Lactation Counselor and then later fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming an IBCLC in 2010 after passing the rigorous evaluation of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). I began my private practice in August 2012. Happily Nursing! Breastfeeding Support Services, LLC is a Georgia Licensed Liability Corporation. I am a member of the International Lactation Consultants Association (ILCA), United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA), Southeastern Lactation Consultants Association (SELCA), Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition of Georgia, Georgia Rural Health Association, North Georgia Breastfeeding Task Force, and the Northeast Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition. I am the current president of both SELCA and the Northeast Georgia Breastfeeding Coalition.
