Dr. Adrienne Simonds graduated from the University of Scranton with her Masters in Physical Therapy (M.P.T.) in 2003 and Bachelors in Health Sciences in 2002. Her interest in prenatal and postpartum musculoskeletal physical therapy, specifically pelvic girdle pain, led her to pursue a PhD in Physical Therapy at Nova Southeastern University. She completed her PhD in 2014 and her dissertation, Pelvic Girdle Pain, Postpartum Depressive Symptoms, and Perceived Improvement during the First Twelve Weeks after Delivery, focused on the combination of pelvic girdle pain and postpartum depression in the first 3 months after childbirth. She is currently leading the workgroup on Clinical Practice Guidelines for Pelvic Girdle Pain in the Postpartum Population, a multi-year project co-sponsored by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the APTA Section on Women’s Health. Her scholarly agenda is focused on postpartum pain, especially low back, pelvic girdle and Cesarean Section incision pain, and postpartum depressive symptoms.
