Athena has been practicing as a physical therapist in the Valley since 1996. She has worked in many settings including inpatient, skilled nursing, hospice, acute rehabilitation, and outpatient physical therapy. Across these settings, Athena recognized the great need for physical therapy to address women’s pelvic floor issues of incontinence, prolapse, and pain. Through effective, non-surgical treatment approaches such as behavior modification education, EMG biofeedback, electrical stimulation, and pelvic floor exercise, she works with women to address pelvic floor muscle dysfunction and to make improvements that enhance their quality of life. She has completed comprehensive education, training, and testing regarding pelvic floor dysfunction and has earned the Certificate of Achievement in Pelvic Physical Therapy (CAPP) from the Section on Women’s Health of the American Physical Therapy Association, Board Certification in Biofeedback for Pelvic Muscle Dysfunction (BCB-PMD) from the Biofeedback Certification International Alliance, and Board Certification Specialization in Women's Health from the American Physical Therapy Association.
