Karla earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy degree from Washington University in St. Louis, consistently ranked one of the top physical therapy programs in the country. Dr. Wente also completed four clinical rotations in outpatient orthopedics, acute care, neurological rehabilitation, and women’s health. With a strong passion for specialty physical therapy care in pelvic health for women, men, and children, she completed a prestigious clinical residency in this subspecialty at Washington University. Following her residency, Karla earned her Women’s Clinical Specialist certification through the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. She is also a certified lymphedema therapist, having completed additional education through the Klose Institute.
Devoted to furthering physical therapy education for future physical therapists, Dr. Wente has been a guest lecturer at both Northwestern University and Washington University as well as a lab assistant in pelvic health courses. She has also spoken at national physical therapy conferences and enjoys community outreach speaking engagements.
Dr. Wente highly values her volunteer work within women’s health and physical therapy. She is an active member of the Rehabilitation Advisory Council for the Worldwide Fistula Foundation (WFF) and has traveled to the Danja Fistula Center in Niger, Africa in both 2016 and 2017 as a medical specialist volunteer. There she provided pelvic floor clinical education to improve care for women with obstetric fistula. Dr. Wente co-founded the Chicago Young Women’s Pelvic Pain Support Group in 2014 to provide support and education to young women suffering in silence due to pelvic pain. She is also a devoted volunteer for both the International Pelvic Pain Society and the American Physical Therapy Association Section on Women’s Health.
