Review: Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Kit

The best all-in-one kit for healing and recovery for those first couple weeks after giving birth

As a first-time mom, I was so excited for the arrival of our baby girl. There was so much planning that went into making sure we had all the right things for her. We spent time researching everything we would need for her for the first year, but there was one crucial thing I failed to do much research on: what I would need for my postpartum recovery.

As my due date was approaching, after frantically googling what I should expect and need for my recovery, I came across the Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit. I ordered it immediately and I used everything in it! It comes with four pairs of disposable postpartum underwear, four instant ice maxi pads, 24 perineal cooling pad liners made with witch hazel, five ounces of perineal healing foam, and a toilet-top storage caddy; all together that runs $49.99. If you give birth in a hospital or birthing center, it is likely it will provide many essentials for your recovery, but since your stay there is likely to be short, it is nice to have this kit waiting at home.

I loved having disposable underwear so that I didn’t have to worry about doing laundry. The kit comes with four pairs, though you may want to purchase some more as you may not be doing much laundry in the first few weeks you’re home with your baby.

I was even more excited about the items that actually helped me feel better and helped me recover. The instant ice packs, perineal cooling pad liners, and perineal healing foam were all amazing in helping me heal. The instant ice maxi pads relieved pain while also aiding in the healing process, and the liners and foam cooled and soothed the perineal area. I also used Tucks medicated cooling pads, which are great round pads, but I found I needed more than one at a time and they didn’t stay in place very well. I found it easier to use the Frida Mom liners because they are longer.

Frida Mom also offers a larger kit, the Frida Mom Hospital Bag Essentials Complete Kit, which includes an upside-down peri bottle, which I ended up ordering separately. I found this to be incredibly useful for relief and care for your healing vagina. The upside-down aspect is perfect to avoid having your hand in the toilet while cleaning yourself. It also includes grippy socks and a delivery and nursing gown to put on after your first shower at the hospital.

Both kits are very helpful depending on what your needs and wants are. (And it’s something you can put on your registry along with all of the items you put for your baby!) Although the Frida Mom Postpartum Recovery Essentials Kit did not include everything I needed, it was a very helpful starter kit to have. I loved that it was a kit and that all of the items came packaged in a caddy to keep on top of the toilet. I would highly recommend this kit to a new mom because it was so helpful to have everything in one place.
