The best protection for everyday errands: Poise liners

When one writer needs a little extra confidence, these thin liners keep her fresh and dry

I leave a little drip on the toilet seat after every visit. It doesn’t matter if I wiggle, wipe, or dab once I am fully standing, that little drip appears. Even if I manage to yank up my underwear really quickly, the drip just lands there instead and invariably seeps out into my clothes.

Over the last few years, since giving birth and experiencing this damp post-pee ritual, I have tried a variety of products designed to prevent, catch, and absorb errant leaks.

I’ve found that the most comfortable and noninvasive option for me is to wear a specially designed liner in my underwear every day.

Pantyliners designed for normal vaginal discharge are not up for the job and invariably end up too wet and scrunched up uncomfortably. Poise pads are made exclusively for light bladder leakage and come in a variety of absorbencies so you can choose one that’s just right for your unique situation. I wear the Poise liners that are a step up in absorbency from the microliners but not as thick as the incontinence pads, which are designed for bigger leaks.

My liners have the same feel as a regular non-incontinence pantyliner but offer up to three times more absorbency. They have a soft-touch top layer, which doesn’t irritate delicate skin, and the strong adhesive strip keeps the liner in place all day. It doesn’t ride up and give me a wedgie, which is often a problem for me with other types of liners. Poise liners come in two lengths, regular and long. I prefer the long ones, especially if I stand up too quickly from the toilet, as gravity can end up directing my drip right around to my backside. The extra length gives me a bit more confidence.

I don’t like having to wear liners all the time; they can be expensive, and constantly having that extra layer can make you overheat. As I work from home, I tend not to use liners all day, every day, but when I run errands, attend meetings, or go out for a date, a Poise liner keeps me fresh and dry. I don’t have to worry about unpleasant smells or any uncomfortable damp patches.
