What is Allantoin used for?

Allantoin is a white odorless powder that can be extracted from the comfrey plant, a native to Europe and temperate areas of Asia. Allantoin is a natural product found in the human body and is a by-product of uric acid. Allantoin began to gain acceptance in the U.K. medical community in the early 20th century based on longstanding anecdotal evidence supporting its beneficial activity1. Allantoin is now a common ingredient in a broad range of cosmetic formulations and was reported to be used in 1,376 cosmetic products at concentrations of up to 2% 2.
