The Basics On Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate

What is Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate?

Form of vitamin C that is considered stable and an effective antioxidant for skin.

What are other names for Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate?

MAGNESIUM ASCORBYL PHOSPHATE and MAGNESIUM L-ASCORBYL-2-PHOSPHATE

What is Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate used for?

Because MAP is converted into Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) as it crosses the epidermis 1, topical application of MAP will deliver all the benefits to our skin of Vitamin C as discussed in another article. Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate(MAP), together with Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (SAP) has been shown to overcome many of the problems associated with Ascorbic acid in the delivery of these benefits to the skin. In addition, it has been found that MAP protects our skin against UVB irradiation-induced lipid peroxidation and inflammation in cutaneous tissue, regardless of the drug administration route. It was found that in an in vitro experiment, MAP was converted to Ascorbic acid as it crossed the epidermis, but that SAP did not pass through the epidermis. Furthermore, MAP was also converted to Ascorbic acid in serum. These results suggest that the protective effect of MAP on UVB-induced cutaneous damage is due to conversion of MAP to Ascorbic acid .1 MAP has also proven to be an effective skin antioxidant inhibiting the action of free radicals from skin exposure to UV radiation2. It was again demonstrated that MAP effectively passed through the skin and was converted to ascorbic acid to deliver skin benefits for which it is well known.
